How to use Google Sheets
Google's online spreadsheet. ChatGPT Work can create and edit native Sheets when the Google Workspace app is connected. Below: 5 workflows, each with the steps and prompt.
AI competitor analysis: a step-by-step workflow with Grok and ChatGPT
Split the job: use ChatGPT (with browsing or Work) to read each competitor's own pages (homepage, pricing, changelog, docs) into a fixed comparison matrix with a source URL per cell, then use Grok to collect what real users say about them on X in the last 30 days. Merge both into one sheet, verify a sample of cells, and only then write the 'so what' for your positioning.
- Fix the matrix first
- Pass 1: their own pages (ChatGPT)
- Pass 2: what users say (Grok)
- Merge into one sheet
- Verify a sample
- Write the 'so what'
AI for data analysis: a step-by-step workflow on a real CSV
Start with a schema-and-quality prompt that forces the model to describe columns, types, missing values and odd rows before any analysis. Then ask for a short analysis plan, approve it, and move the actual calculations into Google Sheets (or Python) so every number is checkable. Treat the AI's first totals and charts as draft until you've re-run the formulas yourself.
- Scrub the export
- Profile the file first
- Fix or document quality issues
- Ask for a plan, then approve it
- Run the analysis
- Re-run the key numbers in Sheets
AI for market research: a step-by-step process with deep research tools and Grok
Write a research brief with the exact questions, geography and time frame, run it through ChatGPT's deep research for a sourced report, then use Grok to check what's happening on X right now. Pull every number into a table with its source, verify the ones you'll actually use, and label market-size figures as third-party estimates. AI speeds up desk research; it doesn't replace talking to customers.
- Write the brief
- Run deep research
- Extract an evidence table
- Add real-time signals with Grok
- Verify what you'll use
- Write the brief and the open questions
AI for social media: from one blog post to 30 days of posts
Give ChatGPT a short voice guide and one strong article, ask it to extract 10–15 distinct angles first, then draft posts per platform from those angles into a fixed table (date, platform, hook, body, CTA, source quote). Paste the table into Google Sheets as your calendar, edit every post yourself, and schedule from there. Don't ask for '30 posts' in one go: you'll get 30 versions of the same post.
- Write a one-page voice guide
- Extract angles, not posts
- Draft per platform
- Build the calendar in Sheets
- Edit every post
- Schedule and review monthly
ChatGPT competitor analysis: price monitoring with ChatGPT Work
For competitor analysis and price monitoring with ChatGPT, use ChatGPT Work. Give Work a list of competitor pricing URLs and a fixed column layout, have it build a spreadsheet with a source link per row (we tested a downloadable .xlsx; a native Google Sheet is untested), check it yourself, then turn the refresh into a weekly scheduled task that only messages you when a price or plan changes. With the .xlsx route, the task's baseline is a frozen copy of the first file. We tested the price extraction: on 15 Oct 2026 (Plus, web), Work captured 12 plans from Notion, Linear and Airtable in about 4 minutes, and every numeric price matched the live pages. The weekly scheduled run and its change alerts, the native Google Sheets path and the README tab haven't been tested yet.
- Switch to Work
- Pick the output: .xlsx (tested) or Google Sheet (untested)
- Run the first extraction
- Check the sheet against the sources
- Lock the format
- Schedule the weekly check (the weekly run is not tested yet)
- Review changes, not pages
